About the event

This is a PEACEFUL protest at ALL FOUR CORNERS of 62 & Park Boulevard - a NON-VIOLENT, non-civil-disobedient event.

PLEASE STAY ONLY ON THE SIDEWALKS - we’ve been asked to not stand on land owned by Coyote Corner and it’s best to apply this to any of the other businesses on this 4 way step.

Please DO NOT PARK in the Nomad Ventures parking lot or the Library parking lot, you will be towed.

We’re legally allowed to be on the sidewalks - and it’s respectful to our neighbors and fellow townspeople to keep their spaces safe!

This is a masks encouraged event. You’re not required to wear one, but if you can - please do!

Masks let our immunocompromised friends come attend the event and it gives you privacy should you want some extra privacy!

What to bring

Bring a sign of your choosing! - please bring signs that you can HOLD, not signs on a stick!

BRING WATER, bring snacks, dress for the weather - aka bring and wear sunscreen, make sure to bring sunglasses, it’s spring weather but we’re still in a desert. 😊

Additional Information

If you have any event questions, please email [email protected]

You can find info we share to our stories on Instagram: @morongobasinresistance - we're also on Facebook, both as a page and as a group to join, under the same name: Morongo Basin Resistance.

A few things to keep in mind:

PEACEFUL PROTEST - this is a non-violent, non-civil-disobedience protest. We've been told there are some counter-protestors - DO NOT ENGAGE. Let's focus on OUR protest, OUR chants, etc.

WEATHER - BRING AND WEAR SUNSCREEN! Dress comfy, if you feel more comfortable being non-descript, do so.

DRINKS/SNACKS - make sure to bring your own water, we're in a DESERT! Also please bring your own snacks - it's only a 2 hour protest, so if you've already eaten beforehand you should be fine.

PARKING - make sure wherever you park, that you're ALLOWED to park there - some parking lots are specifically for the stores/shops/restaurants. The farmers market is also happening tomorrow, so there'll be less parking than normal (but great for visibility.) There's dirt parking lots behind most of the stores in JT that's available for everyone to park, but you might have to walk to the protest site.

CELL PHONES - make sure to have your biometrics turned off "just in case." We're a small town, and in the previous protests we've never had any problems, but this is shaping up to be a very large protest and we want to ensure your safety - ultimately you're responsible for what you choose to do, but we want to give you the best info.

SIGNS/POSTERS - bring ones you make, you're welcome to bring extra for people who don't have them.

MASKS - we're a masks highly-encouraged event - both for the safety of our immunocompromised attendees & for your privacy.

PHOTOS/VIDEOS - Make sure to ensure the people you're taking photos/videos of are okay and have their privacy intact - such as wearing their mask, holding the sign in front of their face, etc - you're responsible for your own amount of privacy due to the size of the event, but please be mindful as a community!

POLICE - the sheriff's know we're doing a peaceful protest, they know about the counter protest - we do not anticipate any problems, but make sure you know your rights just in case .

CHANTS/SONGS - We're currently collecting chants, feel free to email us back with your favorites. We're also open to leading a round of "Do You Hear The People Sing" - but you'd want to bring the lyrics and listen to the song first if you're unfamiliar with it. This is optional, and will be done based on how the protest crowd feels tomorrow.

ACLU Rec's - The ACLU recommends bringing a permanent marker & writing important phone numbers on your body just-in-case, a US photo ID, water, snacks, sunscreen, any essential medications, mask/poster if you'd like.

ANYTHING ELSE? If you have anything else you want us to know & for us to update on the Notion living document - make sure to check it before the event, in case we can't send out a second email before the event.

LET'S HAVE A GREAT, FUN, PEACEFUL PROTEST AND MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!

Peaceful & Non-Violent Protest

The goal is to make our voices heard!

If counter protestor’s show up….

DO NOT ENGAGE**. SIMPLY IGNORE.**

Non-Violence Event

We ask that people joining the Morongo Basin Resistance to peacefully protest - this is a non-violent, non-civil-disobedient event.

While we trust our community to be safe, kind, and conscientious…

In the unlikely case that someone does choose to engage in violence or civil disobedience, we ask that anyone representing or participating in the MBR event to remove themselves from the protest areas.

We also do not anticipate any law enforcement crowd control efforts, but in the unlikely case this happens, please don’t resist (even if they appear to be inappropriate - safety and peaceful protest are our #1 priorities.)
